For years we have known we needed something for the young men pertaining to the Rites of Passage and the Fathers Blessing. In April I met Dr Chuck Stecker at the National Coalition of Men's ministries annual conference. He was speaking out of his new book " Men of Honor and Women of Virtue." I sat in his session and was mesmerized with the biblical truths I was hearing and realized,
"this is it," this is what we have been looking for. He addressed the absolute need of the Father's Blessing and the recognition of this crucial time in a young persons life.
I'm going to paraphrase what I heard that day, but you can get the new book from our website by ordering it today, on line or our toll free number. When a young boy or girl begins going through the biological changes in their body, it's a difficult time, as we all know change is always difficult. But what we miss is that God has created us and this physical change has to take place to begin the journey into adulthood. Dr. Cole taught us that any principle you see here on earth is the reflection of a spiritual principle in the Kingdom of God, or in the spiritual realm. Because God is the creator, He created everything. So if there is a physical law that is taking place such as puberty, then there is a spiritual law or principle that it's based on. In other words, when young people begin to mature physically, then at the same time, they are to begin their journey to mature spiritually. Hebrews 5:13,14 says you were on milk, now is time for meat and to practice or discern good from evil or right from wrong. In other words, it's time to grow up. We know maturity doesn't come with age but with the acceptance of responsibility. The amplified bible explains that scripture in depth by saying 'constant practice choosing good from evil, right from wrong'. That's it! Making right decisions over and over on a consistent basis is a sign of maturity, but constantly making wrong decisions is a sign of immaturity. There is so much more depth about this and Chuck teaches it better than I can in this blog. I'm not going to tell you everything in the book. I just wanted to make sure everyone knows, there is a great book now to take young men and young women through that is biblically based.
We have a great curriculum for men and have great success with young men taking them through the young men's curriculum and now we have Men of Honor and Women of Virtue to take them through the Fathers Blessing and a rites of passage that young people and the church is in dire need of in these promiscuous times.
The Jewish culture recognizes this special time n a young persons life. It's time we recognize and walk with our young people through these formidable years that will absolutely impact their future with God, their family and their own marriage some day.
I can't wait to hear from you as God ministers to and through you the way He did that day in
April for me.
Hope to see you soon at one of the meetings on our Events page.
Until then we continue to "Build Men and Raise Sons."
May God continue to richly bless you as we labor together in the harvest for men's lives.
JACK
I am delighted to see that you understnd the need for Rites of Passage and Father's Blessing rituals. In my faith we have had this for thousands of years. It is called a bar mitzvah and it is the time when a Jewish boy comes before his community to lead a sabbath service and teach from the Torah. It is with the blessing of his extended family (not just the father). It is truly a coming of age. Perhaps you could take some of what we do and make use of it so that it would be appropriate for your needs.
Respectfully,
Ana Martin
