It's been a month since I blogged but don't think there hasn't been anything going on in the ministry. As you know I now have 9 grand children. When I travel to minister it's normally from Thursday to Sunday or Monday, which gives me a couple of days before I leave again for ministry. When I land at DFW International airport I'm usually thinking about how long it's been since I saw or was with my different grandchildren. One of my daughters once said to me, "Dad, I think you miss your grand kids more than your kids." I responded, "The grand kids still come running to me when I come back in from traveling." She quickly responded, " Well, you bring them stuff!" I said, "Ohhhhhh, okay, if I start bringing you stuff, will you start running to me again?" She said, "No, but you can start bringing me stuff again."
I guess my point in rambling on about my grand kids is related to how much my grand dad impacted me. I was named after my grandfather on my mother's side, Charles W. "Toby" Young. My middle name is Charles. I remember as an 8 year old, following my Grandpa Toby around everywhere. He was funny and I loved being with him. He would be picking strawberries and dropping them in his metal pail. Of course I would eat them as fast as he picked them. Then he would act flabbergasted at his bucket being empty and ask me if I knew where they "disappeared to." Of course my response with red lips was, "I dunno." It's those fun times that never leave your memory as a child.
I want everyone of my grand children to each have special memories of their Papa when they grow up. Whatever time I have left on this earth, it's not my #1 priority to minister to men every waking moment. But to make sure my grand children know how much God loves them and how much their Mana & Papa love them. Their parents are doing incredible in teaching & training them to love the Lord with all their heart, soul & mind and to love their neighbors as themselves.
I believe our responsibility as grand parents is to give them hope and encouragement for when they have grand children, they will have rich and fond memories to pass on from us.
I will write of what God is doing in the ministry during the last 3-4 weeks. But in the meantime, when you don't see a new blog, at least you know where I am and what I am doing.
Either I am with my grand children or with my sons or son in laws, playing golf. And many of you know first hand, how much I need to practice my golf game, including you Russell.
Besides, my doctor told me I needed more greens. :)
Thanks for your friendship, partnership and prayers.
Three Cowboys,
Papa Jack, Taylor King & Grayson Jack King
